About Ryan E. Scharar

Ryan Scharar is a nonprofit transactional attorney focused on tax planning and controversy resolution for churches and religious organizations.  A significant part of his practice consists of incorporating nonprofit corporations, drafting corporate governance documents, applying for recognition of tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service and applying for exemption from state franchise, sales, property taxes, representing clients in Internal Revenue Service audits and tax inquiries and advising clients with respect to state and federal tax issues. 

Mr. Scharar also assists religious nonprofit clients on a variety of business and tax matters, including: tax planning and tax return consultation for Ministers and other church staff, compensation issues, parsonages and housing allowances, allowable business expenses, charitable contributions, social security, retirement planning, and church reporting. 

Prior to joining Anthony & Middlebrook, P.C., Ryan Scharar practiced law on a broad range of transactional and civil litigation matters with a downtown Fort Worth law firm.  He is also a Certified Public Accountant having worked as an auditor in the Houston office of PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP prior to attending law school and as a tax preparer and tax consultant for two accounting firms during law school. 

Mr. Scharar, his wife Bronwyn, and their son live in Fort Worth, Texas where they are active members of Arbor Lawn United Methodist Church and a variety of other social, civic and charitable organizations.
